RICHARD KANE, MD

RICHARD KANE, MD

Dr. Kane performed his undergraduate education at University of Iowa where he earned his BS in Microbiology with a minor in biochemistry. From there he returned to his hometown Chicago to enroll in medical school at Rush Medical College. Always having a strong interest in technology and computer science as well as medicine, radiology was a perfect match as a career choice. Following Medical school Dr Kane did his internship and radiology residency at St Francis Hospital in Evanston.

Following matriculation of his radiology residency Dr Kane chose to do his fellowship in Interventional Radiology, as this provided a bridge from diagnostic imaging to direct care of the patient. He was accepted as a fellow in interventional radiology at Rush Presbyterian Medical Center in Chicago. After completing fellowship he was asked to stay on as an associate professor and attending Interventional Radiologist at Rush. In this role his responsibilities included training radiology residents and interventional radiology fellows, research as well as performing complex interventional procedures in a high volume setting.

Dr Kane served as an Attending at Rush for three years when he was asked by his original training mentors at St Francis Hospital to start an Interventional radiology program at that institution. Dr Kane remains at St. Francis where he has been an attending radiologist for 22 years. Throughout this time he has also published several papers in the radiology literature. He currently specializes in Emergency Radiology. In addition, to his clinical and teaching responsibilities at St Francis, he has been a course instructor for several years at RSNA, served on a panel discussion at RSNA and served on the medical advisory committee for General Electric to evaluate software design used in CT Imaging.

During his free time Dr Kane enjoys playing music, reading, photography and spending time with his Border Collies.
